Up until the 18 th century, virtually all the diamonds that reached Europe were from India , considered to be the birthplace of Diamonds. It was here that they were first identified and described acquiring the mystique that rendered them suitable to grace to adorn rulers and kings. Mogul emperors, princes and Maharajas had a passion for Diamonds while Catherine and Marie de Medicis, two French Queens were absolutely enraptured by Diamonds their entire lives as illustrated in two portraits from the �Clouet' and �Fouquet' schools.
