This early Victorian Necklace with phenomenal Etruscan work, is a testament to the skill and foresight shown by 19th century jewelers. Weighing 14.5g and measuring 14.5inches long and 1.2cm wide, this very feminine and sophisticated original unique Antique Necklace from the mid 1800's boasts an origin of Etruscan Revival. Constructed in 22ct gold plated solid 15ct rose-gold, this remarkable condition Victorian necklace is centrally mounted in each of 22 identical links, including the original clasp, a colorless foil-backed 6 x 4mm lozenge jargon. Jargoon, jargon or occasionally in old writings jargounce and jacounce, is the name applied by gemologists to zircons which are fine enough to be cut as gemstones, but are not of the red color which characterizes the hyacinth or jacinth. Related to the Arab word zargun or zircon, colorless jargoon may be obtained by heating certain colored stones, of which zircon frequently loses color, at the same time increasing density and brilliance. The zircon has strong refractive power, and its luster is almost adamantine, but it lacks the fire of the diamond. The so-called Matura diamonds, formerly sent from Matara (or Matura), in Sri Lanka, were decolorized zircons. While each lozenge bezel, secures its own matching shape jargon, this is a delightful mirroring of the shape of each link, accentuated at the four tips with a collet mounted 2mm diameter matching grade colorless foil-backed rose-cut jargon, totaling 88 in number. A hidden clasp secures this unbelievably pristine antique Victorian necklace for which any bride, mother or grandma, be her relatively petite, would be magnificently impressed.
