European-Cut Diamond Engagement Rings
European-cut Diamond Engagement Rings from the 19th century were cut with fifty-eight facets, the European-cut Diamond originating from the old mine-cut diamond, both deep-cut with smaller tables and larger culets. Valued for their mythological properties and magical powers, diamonds of ancient times were uncut for fear of rendering these powers useless. Early cleaving techniques were used in an attempt to cut diamonds that were brought by travelers from the Golconda Mine in India to Europe and transported back to line the treasure chests of Maharaja’s and Moghuls.
