The Waltham Watch Company was established in 1850 in Massachusetts with the aim of 'creating the American system of watch manufacturing'. Changing its name to 'American Horologe Co.' two years later, the new company produced its first watches in 1852. After undergoing several changes of ownership and name, the new 'American Waltham Watch Company' founded in 1857 concentrated on manufacturing watch movements and became the main supplier of Railroad Chronometers within and outside the United States. The manufacture of Waltham watch parts was moved to Switzerland one century later, in 1957, adopting the name 'Waltham International SA'. The latter now produces Swiss-made luxury Waltham watches as a full fledged member of the 'Federation of the Swiss Industry.
