This antique jewelry item is an Art Nouveau dog brooch with old mine and rose-cut diamonds and rubies crafted in 18k yellow gold, weighing exactly 5g and measuring 49mm long, 18mm wide and 5mm deep. Reminiscent of the jewelry designed at the turn of last century and inspired by the late Victorian 'novelty jewelry' incorporating predominantly animal motifs, this immaculately constructed Art Nouveau brooch depicts a masterfully sculptured dog rendered in textured and matted yellow gold, walking over a floral spray, surrounded by a stylized ovular yellow gold perimeter. These combined symbols of 'nature' being the leitmotif of Art Nouveau design, however, remain open to interpretation with respect to the artist's message, as is the case with most 'non-conformist' jewelry pieces designed by Art Nouveau masters.
