Georgian Jewelry
Spanning the period from 1714-1837, Georgian Jewelry was symmetrical, regal, elegant and balanced. Foil-backed colored stones and rose-cut diamonds are typical, breathing life and sparkle into starbursts and crescents. S imple rivière necklaces and ribbon-bows with pear-shaped drops were popular items as were large stones and clusters. Rings often graced every finger and bangles adorned forearms and upper arms. Long flat link geometrical chains with stylized hearts or Greek motifs draped around the neck and shoulders and flat gold linked geometrical shields or acanthus leaf earrings accentuated elegant Roman hairstyles du jour. Also in vogue, marcazite, Berlin Iron, Roman mosaics and cameos which made their debut for varied and interesting reasons.
