Retro Jewelry

When Art Deco’s geometrics and floral stylizations were given a dramatic sculptural twist, Retro Jewelry was born in the 1940’s. Green, White, Yellow and especially Rose Gold formed assertive scrolled and raised dome sculptures mounted with Sapphires and especially Rubies. Citrine, Aquamarine, Tourmaline Amethyst and Citrine were in abundance and lent themselves to the baguette-cut. Geometric ballerinas, oversized bows, large linking chains, massive bracelets and chunky rings became the norm. Ingenuity was born from destruction, deprivation and adversity, the adaptation needed to survive necessitated survival, a paradox in itself. The Retro movement was a case of striving against the odds to successfully master triumph.
