This Vintage Ring, most likely of post Art Deco Egyptian Revival provenance, is constructed in 14k yellow gold and mounted with an original full-drilled scarab bead. Weighing 9.3g and measuring 1.9cm long and 8mm wide, this fascinating Scarab is bezel-set atop tapering shoulders, slimming to a narrowing shank. The underside of Mr. Scarab is just as intriguing as the surface, illustrating a meaningful yet hidden Cartouche relaying important information to the wearer just as today we wear lockets with pictures and messages from loved ones. According to ancient Egyptian myths, the sun rolls across the sky each day transforming bodies and souls. Scarabs, popularized as amulets in ancient Egypt, were seen as earthly symbols of this heavenly cycle, rolling dung into a ball for the purposes of eating and laying eggs. Later, scarabs were given as 'gifts' and even incorporated into tombs, as grave goods to smooth the deceased's journey into the afterlife or as offerings to the gods.
