The elegantly matted white enamel dial features applied Roman and Arabic numerals in contrasting black color, subsidiary seconds and decorative spade-headed and baton hands. The front cover of the hunter case is elaborately rendered in repoussé gold, depicting the entwining full-length sculptures of a pair of griffin-serpents, a legendary creature with the head of a lion, the wings of an eagle and a snake-like tail which were amongst the popular sources of inspiration for the turn of century Art Nouveau designers. Rendered with anatomically accurate features, the legendary figures are surrounded by delicate florettes and foliate themed profiles in repoussé gold. The reverse is inscribed in Spanish with the dedication 'Juana y Pascual a su querido padre en el cinquenta aniversario de su natalicio' translating 'from Juana and Pascual to their beloved father on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday', presumably related to a previous owner. The reverse cover of the hunter case is adorned with an intaglio engraved monogram, enhanced by delicate foliate inspired scrolls.
