Shreve & Co., a San Francisco based establishment, has a history almost as old as the city itself. Founded in 1852 by two brothers, the Company has been internationally active in the production of antique jewelry. They were commissioned to make the State of California's gift to Queen Elizabeth on her coronation and have fashioned important jewelry items to the special orders of kings, presidents, shahs, sheiks and famous personalities throughout the world. In the 1880's, Shreve & Co. advertised a choice selection of jewelry and novelties of their own design and manufacture amongst which is a variety of articles made of gold bearing quartz, such as pins, bracelets, earrings, charms and chains.
