This enamel Victorian Style Ring with an emerald and rose-cut diamonds in Mogul revival style is crafted in 18k yellow gold, weighs 5.2g and measures 11mm wide and 4.5mm deep. Inspired by the mid-seventeenth Mogul jewelry style, this exquisite Victorian Antique Style Diamond Ring of highly ornate aesthetic is designed as a quadrangular plaque adorned with an emerald and four rose-cut diamonds all of which are mounted within closed foil-backed settings. The centrally positioned emerald cabochon measures 4.01mm square, graded 'foil-backed lizard-green' color, mounted within an alluring foil-backed lozenge setting. Four antique rose-cut diamonds measuring in average 4.4mm long and 3.8mm wide are quatrefoil mounted in stylized triumvirate frames. Broad and tapering shoulders depict a pair of openwork green lotus flowers, extraordinarily beautiful flowers with symbolic significance in almost every part of the world. In the East, the lotus flower is viewed as a symbol of awakening to the spiritual reality of life; the Indian lotus flower represents divinity, fertility, wealth, knowledge and enlightenment, associated with Maha Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth often depicted sitting on a fully blossomed lotus flower, symbolizing all things good and beautiful. The Christian alternative to the lotus is the white lily which signifies both fertility and purity. The symbolic green lotus flowers illustrated on this ring are masterfully rendered in polychrome green and gold enamel, creating a captivating aesthetic. The undercarriage of this magnificent Victorian Mogul style ring is decorated entirely with green enamel floral designs, while the shank is embellished with foliate motif enamel work, a pair of relief-style teardrop shape and lozenge profiles. This alluring Victorian Mogul Antique Style Ring can only be downsized by adding a horseshoe or gold beads inside the shank.

Originally referred to as ‘Mughal’, the Persian word for Mongol of which the name Mogul is the modern version, the term was used to refer to the Central Asian nomads claiming descent from the Mongol warriors. The Mughal Empire was founded in 1526 and, in spite of drastic upheavals, survived until 1857. According to historians, it was the greatest empire of the world for over two centuries. The most famous Mughal Emperor 'Shah Jahan' succeeded to the throne by mid-seventeenth century, giving rise to a period of cultural prosperity and development for his nation. His empire supported cultural life, directed the creation of libraries, and collections of paintings and various objects of art. Shah Johan’s reign is remembered primarily for his monumental architectural achievements, the most famous of which is the Taj Mahal, symbolizing the Mughal artistic achievements. The Mughal era was the most significant in Indian history with respect to a fruitful fusion of Indian, Persian and Central Asian artistic tradition. The Mughals appreciated fine things of life, produced masterfully designed artifacts and favored cultural activities. The most important of all however, was the secure framework provided by the Empire within which arts and artistic talents could flourish. The blending of Persian and Indian artistic heritage resulted in the production of valuable pieces of jewelry and decorative objects mostly made of gold and embellished with precious stones and exquisite enamels of innumerable design and color. Green and red, however, were the favorite colors of the emperors and hence the frequent use of emeralds and rubies in the production of the most valuable pieces of jewelry. Shah Jahan's own magnificent signet ring, kept at the State Hermitage Museum, is believed to be a unique piece of jewelry with an original intaglio engraving of the Shah’s name. The Mughal or Mogul revival style flourished throughout Europe, particularly in France, in the 1920’s and was adopted by Cartier in a great variety of ornamental pieces particularly bracelets and necklaces.
