Conflict-free diamonds refer to those obtained through entirely distinct procedures which do not involve hazardous chemicals, radiation or other environmentally dangerous substances and which, contrary to ?blood diamonds?, are produced under ethical, non-discriminatory and humanitarian working conditions. It is encouraging to witness a trend towards the gradual substitution of ?dirty diamonds? by what we term as ?conflict-free? diamonds, and a joy to observe that this consciousness is gaining grounds simultaneously with respect to precious metals. Please note that as some of these rough-cut diamonds do not have flat tables, they don?t lend themselves to our regular system of photography. Rose-cut diamonds tend to reflect the light due to the facet structure, preventing viewing the beautiful array of natural colors inside the stone. Consequently these are light-sensitive diamonds whose tonality changes under varying light-sources but all the colors are natural and nothing is enhanced. Please note that the color grade offered is that most prevalent in lab conditions under fluorescent lighting. In support of Doroth�e Gizenga, appointed the Diamond Development Initiative?s first executive director, FCI hopes to help change the world?s demand for commercial diamonds, therefore to potentially stop the supply of blood diamonds by altering the demand for diamonds in some small way. Rough-cut diamonds are NEVER blood diamonds because the black-market price for stones such as these, fortunately do not warrant the risk.
