These Victorian amethyst earrings with diamonds are crafted in and stamped 18k white and rose gold, weigh 8.2g and measure 4.1cm long, 12.5mm wide and 6.5mm deep. Epitomizing a popular design of pendent earrings in vogue throughout Europe during the second quarter of the 19th century and particularly favored by Empress Eugenie in France, these Victorian style amethyst earrings are resplendent in 9.32cts of amethyst and 0.75cts of full-cut diamonds. Exposing a pair of marquise faceted amethysts measuring 14mm long and 7.5mm wide, these very well-cut amethyst are graded a most enchanting 'lively-lilac' color and 'excellent' clarity. Secured by a pair of claw-prongs atop a diaphanous rose gold gallery, each absorbing articulated 'royal gem' suspends 'en tremblant' from the pinnacle of a captivating, free-moving micro-pave marquise surround mounted with full-cut diamonds in 18k white gold. The alluring amethyst and diamond accoutrement is surmounted by a delicate diamond-adorned marquise profile, suspending 'en tremblant' from a trio of matching grade faceted marquise amethysts, exposed atop rose gold galleries. These exquisite and very finely and daintily crafted Victorian style amethyst and diamond earrings of unique aesthetic beauty and finesse are outfitted with posts and romantically designed heart-shape butterfly clasps designed exclusively for pierced ears.

Amethyst, the modern birthstone for February, has long been considered a 'royal gem' and has therefore been in great demand throughout history. Fine quality amethysts are featured in the British crown jewels and were also favored by Catherine the Great and Egyptian royalty. A translucent purple-color member of the quartz family, amethyst is the most important quartz variety used in jewelry. The legend of the origin of amethyst is to be found in the Greek mythology and its Greek name 'amethysts' can be translated as 'not drunk', considered to be a strong antidote against drunkenness. This may explain why, in ancient times, wine goblets were carved from this gemstone. In Tibet, amethyst continues to be sacred to Buddhists and used for fashioning rosaries. The color of this gemstone ranges from 'pale-lilac' to 'deep-purple'. The lighter colors, often referred to as 'rose de France', were popular and frequently used in Victorian jewelry. Amethyst is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia and Argentina as well as in Namibia and other African countries.
