These Edwardian amethyst earrings with diamonds in antique style are crafted in and stamped 18k white gold, weigh 11.20g and measure 4.1cm long, 16mm wide and 9.5mm deep. Epitomizing the distinctly elegant and sophisticated jewelry design of the affluent Edwardian era, these captivating Edwardian style pendent earrings are resplendent in 35.19cts of amethyst and 0.42cts of full-cut diamonds. Exposing a duo of pear-shaped faceted amethysts measuring 22mm long and 16.38mm wide, these notably well-cut 'royal gems' are graded a most enchanting 'lively-lilac' color and 'excellent' clarity. Secured by delicate multiple prongs, each absorbing amethyst surmounts a diamond-studded silhouette inspired by the Belle Époque 'foulard'(scarf) design of earrings and necklaces which resembled a 'scarf’ worn around the neck with suspending cross-over ends. The latter are surmounted by alluring marquise themed profiles, complemented by temptingly delicate diamond collets. The assemblage of precious diamonds is cumulatively collet and bead-set with 0.26cts of full-cut diamonds graded H color and VS1 clarity and suspends 'en tremblant' from the captivating lozenge-formatted ear-studs. The latter are mounted with 0.16cts of full-cut diamonds graded G-H color and VS1 clarity, enriched with immaculate mille grain edgework. These exquisite and very finely crafted Edwardian style amethyst and diamond earrings of unique aesthetic beauty and finesse are outfitted with posts and florally chased openwork clasps, stamped '750' denoting 18K gold, and are designed exclusively for pierced ears.

The modern birthstone for February, amethyst has long been considered a 'royal gem' and has therefore been in great demand throughout history. Fine quality amethysts are featured in the British crown jewels and were favored by Catherine the Great and Egyptian royalty. A translucent purple-color member of the quartz family, amethyst is the most important quartz variety used in jewelry. The legend of the origin of amethyst is to be found in the Greek mythology and its Greek name 'amethysts' can be translated as 'not drunk', considered a strong antidote against drunkenness. This may explain why, in ancient times, wine goblets were carved from this gemstone. In Tibet, amethyst continues to be sacred to Buddhists and used for fashioning rosaries. The color of this gemstone ranges from 'pale-lilac' to 'deep-purple'. The lighter colors, often referred to as 'rose de France', were popular and frequently used in Victorian jewelry. Amethyst is mined in Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia and Argentina as well as in Namibia and other African countries.
