Art Deco Jade Necklace

This Art Deco style jade necklace with frosted crystal, 24k gold beads and 14k yellow gold clasp weighs 40.4g and measures 18 inches long and 12mm wide. In fascinating color contrasting Deco style, this absorbing and impressively color-enriched necklace incorporates a single strand composed of five silk-strung round beads of jade measuring 12mm in diameter, graded a highly regarded 'mottled grass-green' color. These vivacious gemstones are complemented by seven delicately pierced and textured 24k gold beads, each flanked by alluring frosted crystal cabochon rondelles, measuring 8.5mm wide and 4.5mm deep, graded 'white' color and 'semi-transparent' clarity. This color enriched, centrally positioned alignment of gold and gemstones is extended on both sides with alternately strung frosted crystal rondelles and faceted crystal rondelles, creating a delightful, frosty aesthetic. An intricate 14k yellow gold marquise shape slide-in clasp secures this Deco style frosted crystal necklace of distinct aesthetic beauty and feminine grace.

As early as 3000 B.C., Jade was known in China as 'yu' meaning 'The Royal Gem' preserving its significance throughout the long history of Chinese art and culture, not unlike the impact of gold and diamonds in the West. The Chinese continue to regard jade as a symbol of 'The Good, the Beautiful and the Precious' which embodies the Confucian virtues of wisdom, justice, compassion, modesty and courage. Jade is the generic term for two different gems, nephrite and jadeite, both of which were regarded as the same stone until the beginning of the 19th century when gemologists discovered that despite great resemblances they were two distinct gemstones. Jadeite, the raw material for jade, is rarer and therefore more precious than nephrite. Jadeite is found in China, Russia and Guatemala, but the most highly prized stones come from Burma or Myanmar, as it is known today. Representing energy and beauty, the traditional and the modern are symbolically and harmoniously combined within jade while gemstone therapy identifies jade as having the ability to stimulate creativity and mental ability at the same time as balancing and harmonizing.
