This Victorian sapphire pendant and brooch with old mine-cut diamonds is crafted in 14k yellow gold, weighs 8.1g and measures 29mm wide and 6mm deep. Exuding classic elegance and delicacy, this late-Victorian diamond and sapphire pendant or brooch is designed as an alluring rosette, rendered in immaculate openwork with gold knife-edge wire and granulation accents. An attention-seeking 0.69ct cushion-cut sapphire measuring 5.39mm long and 5.60mm wide graded 'dark blue' color and 'good' clarity' constitutes the center of the absorbing rosette inspired openwork plaque, surrounded by quatrefoil stylized lozenge profiles with close resemblance to a bejeweled Maltese cross. The intriguing lozenge silhouettes are spaced by dainty marquise profiles rendered in delicate knife-edge wire adorned each with a diamond at the finial. These bejeweled countenances are cumulatively adorned with 1.00ct of fiery old mine-cut diamonds graded H-I color and SI1 clarity, mounted within yellow gold multiple-prong settings to augment the glittering effect of the pendant. This exquisite original Victorian sapphire pendant and brooch features an ornately scalloped perimeter, an immaculately hinged, deployant and rotating bale and a well-constructed pin and C-hook offering versatility of wear as a classically distinct pendant or a temptingly delicate brooch. Late Victorian pendants and brooches were usually more delicate in design than their earlier counterparts and were worn several at a time along the neckline, or pinned on the lace and tulle draped around the décolletage. Star pendants with six or eight points, crescents, and rosettes were amongst the most popular and widely worn pendants and brooches of the period.
