Victorian Enamel Locket Brooch

Victorian Enamel Locket Brooch

This Victorian enamel locket brooch with diamonds and natural pearls weighs 15.5g and measures 41mm long, 34mm wide and 17mm deep. Of English artisan-ship, it is handcrafted in and stamped '15ct' in antique yellow gold, the gold content being legalized in England in 1854 together with '12ct' gold, both of which were declared not permissible as of 1932 in favor of 14k gold which was stamped '585' in Europe. This authentic and classically distinct locket brooch epitomizes the popular 1840's Victorian enameled brooches with pearl and diamond surround inspired by the famous Renaissance paintings. The alluring brooch incorporates an orbicular 'cobalt-blue' enamel plaque centrally decorated with a delicate 15ct yellow gold rosette adorned with natural half-pearls. This richly reflective vivid cobalt-blue enamel is surrounded by an intriguing, asymmetrically round border of natural 'cream' colored pearls measuring between 1.20 and 3.70mm in diameter. Mounted with 0.19cts of graduated single-cut diamonds graded I-J color and SI1 clarity, this enchanting accoutrement is mounted within finely chased, yellow gold settings creating a meticulously scalloped perimeter. An absorbing openwork ribbon-bow profile with sensual, flowing scrolls constitutes the pinnacle of this conspicuous brooch, adorned with 0.31cts of glowing bead-set full-cut diamonds graded I-J color and SI1 clarity. The bow-knot is ornamented with a dainty cultured pearl while this sophisticated Victorian brooch features a locket compartment with a hinged crystal lid to secret a photograph, a lock of hair or any other memento of romantic and sentimental significance. A later replaced rose gold pin and a well-constructed hook on reverse complement this Victorian enamel brooch of outstanding aesthetic grace and feminine appeal.
