This Victorian Etruscan Revival brooch is crafted in 15ct yellow gold, weighs 17.4g and measures 42mm wide and 20mm deep. Most probably of English provenance, this authentic 19th century Etruscan Revival Victorian locket brooch incorporates an exquisite, highly decorative orbicular plaque composed of alluring 'undulating' discs, rendered in artistic repoussé technique. The magnificent spiral themed plaque is embellished with an Etruscan inspired domed central decor, adorned with a lustrous 'grayish-white' natural half-pearl measuring 3.5mm in diameter. The temptingly delicate organic gem is mounted in an eight-point 'en relief' star setting rendered in enchanting 'cobalt-blue' enamel. The eye-catching domed decor and the undulating disc perimeters are decorated with artistic corded and twisted repoussé gold wire, depicting enchanting patterns of unmatched beauty and delicacy. This authentic Victorian brooch features a locket compartment to conceal a lock of hair, a photograph, or any other memento of sentimental significance. An original hinged pin and a C-hook clasp closure complements this fascinating Victorian Etruscan Revival locket brooch of unique aesthetic beauty and artisanship.

Long before the rise of the Roman Empire, the ancient Etruscans had been known and celebrated for their artistry and elaborate working techniques with precious and semi-precious metals. Lost in the folds of centuries, it was not until the discoveries at Herculaneum and Pompeii in the early 1800's that designers and jewelers of the 'modern civilization' became aware of the ways in which this 'early culture' called Etruscan had created some of the most magnificent pieces of gold jewelry hitherto known. The Etruscan technique of assembling minute golden beads side by side without the use of solder in order to create beautiful textured designs we now refer to as 'granulation' fascinated Pio Castellani, an Italian jewelry designer of early 19th century who attempted to duplicate this fine art of ancient Etruscans. Whether or not achieving the Etruscan level of mastery, Castellani drew the attention of Victorians and created the 'Etruscan Revival Style'.
