This Antique Jewelry pin is an Art Nouveau brooch and pendant of French provenance, with a briolette diamond, crafted in 18k yellow gold, weighing 23.5g and measuring 7cm long, 2.9cm wide and 8mm deep. Elaborately designed and masterfully crafted, this fabulous collectible item of antique jewelry was handcrafted in France at the turn of last full century as evidenced by the eagle hallmark. This authentic Art Nouveau Jewelry item is a brooch and pendant depicting an artfully sculptured eagle in flight with anatomically accurate features. Rumor has it that mine-owners would blast a diamond mine and throw down raw meat, to which the diamonds would stick and the birds of prey would fly down into the mines to retrieve the meat. This eagle is clenching through a 0.91ct briolette diamond measuring 5.86 x 5.02mm, graded 'H' color and I1 clarity. The sparkling 'en tremblant' diamond is the mined prize carried by this hunting bird of prey! Elaborately rendered in repoussé gold, all features of this majestic bird including his eyes, talons and the plumage from his hovering wing-span, are realistically rendered in 18k yellow gold. The life-like century old artistic texturing, engraving and scalloping of the gold was done with particular attention to detail, indicating the remarkable perspective achieved with sculptured gold for which the 'fin de siècle' artists are renowned. This captivating authentic antique brooch epitomizes the jewelry design of the era in which naturalism, suggestion of form and mystical imagery were inherent. The reverse of the brooch is rendered in partly textured, matted yellow gold, outfitted with the original pin and hook both of which are removable, offering versatility of wear as a pendant, for which two hidden bales are inverted at both ends of the pin.
