This Burma ruby engagement ring in platinum Edwardian style weighs 2.4g and measures 8.5mm wide and 6mm deep. Constructed in lavish platinum, this enchanting ruby engagement ring is essentially positioned with a 2.06ct prong-set round faceted 'rich-scarlet' Burmese ruby center-stone graded 'fair' clarity measuring 7.4mm wide, mounted within a pierced openwork crown setting embellished with crashing wave-motif silhouettes. Beguiling shielded shoulders collaborate with a charming curvilinear gallery and the aforementioned oceanic-inspired quixotic setting collectively enveloped in 0.20cts of bead-set full-cut diamonds graded H-J color and SI clarity framed in finely mille-grained edgework. This enthralling Edwardian style Burma ruby and diamond engagement ring is concluded with a svelte yet well-constructed, curvaceous platinum band an easily sizable shank and noteworthy finely mille-grained edgework throughout. The vivid ruby ranks high among the world's desired gemstones and some of its most intense and brilliant examples come from the wilds of Burma. The ruby's rich color, regal heritage, and reputed powers make it the gem of choice among discriminating jewelry lovers who know that fine, large stones may be worth more than diamonds of comparable size, but that smaller stones often make the most elegant jewelry.
'They brought me rubies from the mine, and held them to the sun;
I said they are drops of frozen wine from Eden's vats that run.'
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Please note that we are no longer importing Burma Rubies for political reasons.
In 1901 Queen Victoria passed away and her son Edward became the King of England, hence the term 'Edwardian'. High society was in full swing and lavish jewelry became the style. The heavy gold settings of the Victorian period were no longer in vogue leading to the use of platinum to create a lacy therefore delicate appearance. Edwardian designs were influenced by decorative motifs. A popular known influence was Marie Antoinette's jewelry, which featured an array of garlands, wreaths, bows and tassels with an open work design of scalloped edges and mille grain work. Diamonds were the primary interest in Edwardian jewelry, a fabulous rich, and encrusted sparkly look, created by master craftsmen with high standards. A combination of other gemstones such as emeralds, sapphires and rubies were widely used to compliment these rich designs.
