It features a matted white enamel dial, ornately scrolled rose gold hands and black Arabic numerals while the round dial bears the name of the horologist company 'Shreve & Co.' This delicate and immaculately crafted ladies Victorian lapel watch has an 'adjusted' mechanical movement with bi-metallic compensation, bearing the serial number '14848', the horologist's full name 'Shreve & Co, of San Francisco', secured in an 18k yellow gold cuvette, the inner lid of which bears the purity mark '18k' and the reference number '6615'. The reverse of the watch case is intaglio engraved with a crest which, in view of the inscriptions, is of religious significance, or a dedication to a philanthropic organization. The shield bears the engraving of a Maltese cross surmounting a decorative open scroll detailed with the Latin motto 'NON SIBI' meaning 'not for self'. Shreve & Co., a San Francisco based establishment, has a history almost as old as the city itself. Founded in 1852 by two brothers, the Company has been internationally active in the production of antique jewelry.
