This Art Deco ring with a hessonite garnet and European-cut diamonds in antique style is crafted in lavish platinum, weighs 4.9g and measures 11mm wide and 6mm deep. Reminiscent of the distinct geometric lines and contrasting features of Art Deco jewelry design, this arresting Art Deco style hessonite garnet ring exposes an opulent 4.65ct oval-faceted hessonite garnet measuring 11mm wide and 9mm wide, graded 'reddish-orange' color and 'fair' clarity. Secured by quatrefoil claw-prongs, the vividly-colored corundum is exposed atop a delicately pierced gallery incorporating circular open profiles. Gracefully tapering shoulders are cumulatively adorned with 0.30cts of European-cut diamonds graded H color and SI1 clarity. The latter are bead-set within rectangular frames in three tapering layers creating an arresting escalier-motif. A delicately reeded, tri-dimensional platinum band and an easily sizable shank concluded this absorbing Art Deco style hessonite garnet ring of timeless elegance and feminine appeal.

As an increasingly rare gemstone, Hessonite Garnet is amongst the most highly prized varieties of Grossular Garnet. The most sought-after specimens of Hessonite Garnet are those displaying an evenly distributed bright golden-orange color. Popular for thousands of years, the ancient Greeks and Romans used Hessonite Garnet from which to carve cameos and intaglios while Vedic astrologists believe that Hessonite Garnet was a powerful talisman that increased your lifespan and happiness. From the svelte necklines of Abyssinian princesses to the powdered décolletages of Marie Antoinette, the captivating mystique of Garnets has made them a timeless symbol of feminine beauty. The imaginative lure of this ‘Queen of Gems’ intoxicates the senses. Garnets, from the Latin word for seed, ‘Granatus’, with a history spanning more than 5,000 years, was named due to its color similarity to pomegranate seeds. Pomegranate's associated symbolism with Garnets has been longstanding. Interestingly, several ancient jewelry items have been unearthed, studded with tiny red Garnets in cluster-like patterns reminiscent of pomegranates, which are closely associated with eternity in Greek mythology. Garnet is said to be the stone of romantic love and passion, enhancing sensuality and intimacy, said to awaken creativity and positive energy with the power to bring success to one’s career. The Crusaders mounted Garnets into their armor, believing they possessed the power to ensure their safe return home. During the Middle Ages, the Garnet was also believed to expel negativity, ward off harm and increase our sense of well-being, adding loyalty and honesty as personal attributes. Hessonite garnets are a member of the Grossular Garnet family, colored orange-brown to reddish-brown due to manganese and iron content, tinted on occasion with honey-colored inclusions, good luster and slightly transparency. Hessonite Garnets are found primarily in Sri Lanka, the cinnamon-colored hessonite more frequently occurring in Madagascar, referred to as ‘cinnamon stone’. Hessonite Garnet is an important gemstone in Eastern astrology. It is believed to improve the intellect, lessen aggressive tendencies, increase self-esteem and imbibe us with a deeper sense of spirituality. Natural healers often recommend Hessonite Garnet to help the mind and body release toxins and as an aid to improving relaxation. Hessonite, believed to stimulate creativity on all levels, was also used to encourage both self-respect as well as respect for others, believed to be a good ‘balancing stone’, in so doing, calming the nerves and relieving depression.
