That’s because Acacia Creations operates according to fair trade principles and returns a percentage of each sale to each employee in Kenya. This means the more they sell, the more their workers and their families benefit! Also, because Acacia Beads are made from recycled magazines, the more they sell, the more paper they keep from being thrown away.
Below are just some of the men and women that make this one-of-a-kind jewelry in Kenya. Acacia Creations purchases finished beads at a fair price from the bead-makers in Kenya and Uganda, then bring them to the Nairobi workshop. In Kenya, the beads are meticulously sorted and strung into colorful, beautifully unique jewelry and accessories.

Peridot’s history begins on a small desert island 50 miles off the southeast coast of Egypt in the Red Sea. The name of that Island has changed many times over recorded history. While ancient Greek and Roman literature calls the island ‘Topazos’, it is now known by two names: its immediate past and romantically sounding ‘St. John’s’ and its most recent label ‘Zabargad’, which is the Arabic word for peridot, although some sources attribute the name peridot to the Arabic word ‘faridat’ meaning gemstone.
