The high priest’s breastplate, which is described in the Biblical book of Exodus, includes a stone for each of the twelve tribes of Israel, one being peridot. The Bible also tells of a jewel worn by King Ezekiel from Exodus, an impressive peridot.
Peridot is mentioned throughout the Bible, and was considered sacred by early Christian. Today still, Catholic Bishops traditionally wear a ring of peridot and amethyst as a symbol of purity and morality.
