Deriving its name from a reputable Parisian gallery which opened in 1896, owned by a Mr. Samuel Bing, the Art Nouveau movement developed ideas originating from 'Maison de l'Art Nouveau' and sought to revive aestheticism in art, while influencing Western architecture, metalwork and interior design for roughly thirty years. It was introduced in England circa 1890 as a product of the movement initiated by William Morris and the Pre-Raphaelites, bearing the name of Arts and Crafts movement.
