This vintage Sterling silver picture frame, most probably of English origin weighs 631g and measures 11.75 inches long, 7.5 inches wide and 23mm deep. This classically alluring, stylized arcade shaped picture frame of Neo-classical inspiration is masterfully decorated throughout with sculptured silhouettes of winged angels, birds, flowers and asymmetrically themed profiles rendered in exquisite repoussé work and delicately textured silver. This style of skillful repoussé work on silver was pioneered by the artists of Hannau in Germany who took their motifs from the 17th century ceilings and interior decoration of European cathedrals. It stands on decoratively scrolled feet and a solid stand on reverse, covered entirely with royal-blue colored velvet. The gracefully scalloped perimeter is stamped with the letter 'C' denoting the year 1952, the purity mark of '925' and the maker's initials 'JR'.
This exquisite Sterling silver repoussé frame contains a black and white photograph of HM Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles, apparently taken on a Buckingham Palace balcony.
