Victorian Diamond Pin

This Victorian pin and pendant with rose-cut diamonds is crafted in fine 14k yellow gold, weighs 14.7g and measures 73mm long, 33mm wide and 17mm deep. This authentic 1870's Victorian brooch and pendant, epitomizing the neo-Renaissance Holbeinesque style, a most popular fashion of the period, is designed as a highly ornate heart-shaped silhouette, surrounded by a diamond-studded ribbon bow themed border with ribbon ends suspending extremely delicate flat gold blades cut from thin and flat gold sheets which was a common practice in the 1870's. These delicate cascading drops flank a duo of graduated and diamond-studded rosettes complemented by a kite-motif profile, mounted 'en tremblant' to enable free movement and enhance the glittering effect of diamonds and the thin gold blades. The exquisitely crafted heart silhouette exposes a unique rosette themed profile rendered in meticulous repoussé work, centered by a glowing prong-set rose-cut diamond measuring 5.45mm long and 5.30mm wide surrounded by cinquefoil petals immaculately rendered in pierced and artfully textured yellow gold. These enchanting petals and the delicate rosettes adorning the ribbon-bow profile are adorned with Baroque rose-cut diamonds secured by gracefully elongated multiple-prongs creating fascinating rosettes. An elaborate lace-like openwork profile of enchanting floral design and intricate chase work crowns the glowing heart silhouette, surmounted by a fleur-de-lis bale of pronounced size offering versatility of wear as a pendant. This absorbing pristine neo-Renaissance Victorian brooch and pendant is cumulatively adorned with 21 Baroque rose-cut diamonds, features the original pin and 'C' hook.

The Holbeinesque style, named after the Swiss Architect and designer Hans Holbein, was avant-garde neo Renaissance style extremely popular during the Victorian era. The characteristics of this style were the use of a centrally positioned decor, adorned with a diamond or a colored gemstone, surrounded by pearls or diamonds. Similar in shape to this absorbing Victorian brooch, the Holbeinesque pendant was a highly prized item of jewelry in 1870's England.
