This parrot estate brooch resplendent in diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires is crafted in 18k yellow gold, weighs 31.5g and measures a sizable 9cm long, 3.2cm wide and 12.5mm deep. Lavish and exquisite in format and craftsmanship, this alluring lapel brooch of sculptural design is inspired by the 1940's and 1950's revived renaissance of 'naturalism' a period in which famous jewelry houses such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Fouquet and Boucheron adopted the contemporary naturalistic vogue and produced attractive brooches of floral and animal design. Parrots, tigers, lions and birds of paradise were amongst the extensive repertoire of the new animal-themed jewelry pieces and offered their nobler forms to important and expensive creations, applying the newly invented pavé-and-invisible settings of diamonds and lavish multi-colored precious stones. This unique brooch depicts a 'Macaw' parrot, known as the most colorful and exotic species amongst parrot varieties, native to humid evergreen forests of Eastern Mexico and Amazonian Peru. This exotic Macaw parrot is pavé-set throughout the head and shoulders with 2.50cts (125 in number) of full-cut diamonds graded K color and SI1 clarity, complemented by an absorbing cabochon ruby eye and color contrasting black onyx beak. The fascinating plumage and tail comprise: 3.02cts of channel-set square-cut emeralds graded 'rich grass-green' color and 'fair' clarity; 1.87cts of channel-set baguette rubies graded 'pinkish-red' color and 'excellent' clarity; 3.02cts of channel-set baguette blue sapphires graded 'navy-blue’ color and 'very good' clarity and 3.55cts of similarly set baguette yellow sapphires graded 'pastel-yellow' color and 'good' clarity. An artfully carved, bezel-set mother of pearl fruit represents the bird's prey of an exotic 'ivory nut' from the Amazonian palm trees, mounted atop a diaphanous gallery. Reminiscent of the memorable naturalistically inspired jewels of the post-war era, this extravagant, color-enriched parrot estate brooch features secure well-constructed, hinged 'fur-clips'.
