Filigrana is the Italian word for the art of filigree-making, originally from the Tuscans and the Romans, this skill was also imitated by the Armenians and Greeks in differing degrees of detail using different metals. Commencing with the manufacture of Platinum Filigree Rings in the 1920's and continuing with the trend in the 1930's this time as White Gold Filigree Rings, this hand-made style of Filigree Ring was constructed by attaching a decorative and intricate openwork pattern of wires. These desirable rings became the ideal combination to use for diamonds and European-cut and Old Mine-cut diamonds were mounted and sold as Filigree Diamond Rings.
