Foil-backing was a technique widely in use until the beginning of the nineteenth century increasing the brilliancy of the stones and enabling jewelers to enhance, match and modify the colors of the stones by means of colorful foils placed between the mount and the back of the gems. An exquisitely crafted, Etruscan Revival inspired border formed by rose gold granulation work constitutes the perimeter of this navette-shaped plaque, accentuating the glittering effect of the diamonds. Substantial, diminutively descending shoulders merge to form a spherical, easily sizeable band.
