This Victorian necklace in antique style with button fresh-water pearls and diamonds is crafted in silver-topped 18k yellow gold, weighs 57.2g and measures 12.5 inches long. Designed as a choker necklace in vogue during late Victorian era, this extremely refined and classically distinct necklace comprises nine strands of well-matched and iridescent fresh water button-pearls, measuring 3mm in diameter, graded an enchanting 'pink with a light-peach hue' color. An impeccably crafted and highly ornate plaque embellished with florally inspired, diamond-adorned pierced silhouettes measures 43mm in diameter. Complemented by a pair of diamond-studded cylindrical spacers appreciatively positioned on both sides, this flattering choker necklace is enriched with the feminine and extravagant aesthetic of Victorian style. Cumulatively adorned with 0.32cts of collet-mounted European-cut diamonds graded J color and SI1 clarity, this pastel colored necklace is additionally mounted with 3.10cts of bead-set single-cut diamonds graded I color and SI3 clarity. The nine strands of silk strung lustrous pastel-colored button pearls total 1260 in number, commencing and terminating with cylindrical bars secured by a yellow gold hook and ring clasp, with a tri-link chain extension allowing limited length adjustment.

Choker necklaces or 'dog collars' as they are occasionally referred, are worn high on the neck and first appeared towards the end of the nineteenth century, originally associated with the reigning Princess of Wales at that time. They continued to be the most acceptable and popular form of neck ornament until the outbreak of the First World War. Entirely set with diamonds at the initial stage, these necklaces encompassed great variety of designs and stone settings. Pearl chokers became popular at the turn of century, constructed considerably wider than those of the late Victorian era, threaded at times with up to twenty rows of pearls, gathered by a sizable diamond plaque.
