This antique cameo pendant Victorian Necklace weighs 6.7g and measures 31mm long, 26mm wide and 8mm deep. Set against the delicate pastel pink and white color of the natural shell is depicted the magnificent rendition of a young woman with a floral garland adorning her hair and securing a multitude of waves and ringlets, impeccably carved 'en relief'. This enchanting shell cameo portrait measuring 2.3cm by 1.8cm is mounted within an extremely fine 10k yellow gold frame adorned with artfully intertwined, full-drilled seed pearls graded 'antique-cream' color, each measuring 1.5mm in diameter. The alluring silk strung seed-pearl perimeter of this authentic Victorian shell cameo pendant and brooch is enriched with 0.10cts of old mine and single-cut diamonds graded J color and SI clarity range. A pin with retractable clasp and a round bale offer versatility of wearing this enticing Victorian shell cameo as a fascinating lapel brooch or as a pendant.

Cameo is a hard-stone or a shell into which a design is carved 'en relief', often contrasting the naturally occurring cameo colors. The fashion for cameos was brought back to France from Italy after the Italian Campaign of 1796. Napoleon was fascinated by their beauty and commissioned the mounting of several for his personal use in tiaras, necklaces, bracelets and earrings with gold bezels sometimes decorated with seed pearl borders. Cameos became fashionable once more by the middle of the 19th century, larger and bolder this time than during Napoleonic times. From the 1840's Italy excelled in the production of 'cameo-habille consisting of shell carvings where the subject, oftentimes a female figure, was adorned with gem-set jewels. The same technique was pioneered in France by Dafrique who became famous for his 'cameo-anime', usually designed as hard-stone cameos of Negro girls clad in ruby and rose-cut diamonds.
