This vintage Retro brooch is crafted in vermeil and paste with enamel accents, weighs 39.9g and measures 98mm long, 52mm wide and 13mm deep. In impressive post-war Retro design, this color-enriched and aesthetically enchanting brooch is designed to depict an ibex, a wild mountain goat with large recurved horns transversely ridged in front, also known by the name of 'steinbock'. The physical features of the ibex are rendered with careful attention to detail, representing the anatomically accurate parts of the body and the corresponding colors, rendered in gold, gray and brown enamel. The artistically curved horns are decorated with cream enamel and gold stripes, while the slender neck is pavé-set with sparkling colorless round-faceted paste, also known by the name of Rhinestone. A color-enhanced round-faceted paste of 'medium-red' color constitutes the eye, enhanced by gold and black enamel accents. This temptingly sweet gilded silver ibex is perching on a mountain-top, on the apex of a square-faceted 'vivid-red' colored rhinestone. Ibex predominantly live in the Swiss Alps and the Pyrenees, possessing outstanding climbing abilities on which they rely in order to elude natural predators such as snow leopards. It is believed that Ibex have the unique characteristic, due to the rigidity of their spine that prevents them from looking behind. In the event that an ibex was threatened from the rear, they have been known to backward summersault and land unharmed on their horns! This attention-seeking Retro ibex in gilded sterling silver features a pin and a retractable hook on reverse and is stamped with the maker's mark 'Coro Craft Sterling'.

Rhinestone or 'paste' as it is known in Europe, is a diamond simulant made from rock crystal, glass or acrylic. The name Rhinestone derives from the original source of rock crystals which was the River Rhine in Germany. In the year 1775, the Alsatian jeweler George Frederic Strass introduced the innovative idea of coating the under-side of glass with metal powder, imitating diamonds and hence the name Strass adopted in Germany to replace Rhinestone. Rhinestones are excellent substitutes for diamonds and when manufactured by experts, can capture the glittering effect of real diamonds in the sun. They are produced mainly in Austria and the Czeck Republic and are used on costumes, apparel and jewelry.
