This antique Victorian English swallow brooch with natural seed pearls is crafted in 15ct yellow gold, weighs 5.1g and measures 60mm long, 19mm wide and 6mm deep. Designed as a stylized openwork plaque, this alluring Victorian English brooch incorporates a duo of Architectural Revival inspired parallel components of cylindrical format, adorned at one end with an artfully reeded dome-shaped profile. The immaculately designed silhouette of a temptingly enticing swallow in flight is appreciatively positioned at the center of the openwork plaque, adorned with graduated 'golden cream' natural half-pearls measuring 2-3mm in diameter. This enchanting decor is flanked by Architectural Revival style emblematic profiles, enhanced by granulation technique and artful texturing accentuation. This unique antique English Victorian brooch is secured with a hinged pin and a C-hook clasp closure and bears the hallmark of the city of Birmingham and the purity mark for 15ct gold. The latter was enacted in 1854, together with 12ct gold, bringing the gold jewelry within the reach of an extended public, as opposed to the more expensive 18 and 22ct gold jewelry which remained exclusive to the landed gentry. The 12ct and 15ct standards were replaced by 14ct gold in 1932. Please note that there is slight damage to the pin at one end but it in no way detracts from the beauty of this fine swallow pin.
