Platinum Jewelry

In 1912 England 's luxury liner the Titanic, hit an iceberg and sank en route to New York killing 1500 people. New York society adopted Platinum Jewelry for their fashionable black and white mourning attire. Hans Merensky, a German geologist, discovered the world's largest Platinum deposit in 1924 near Johannesburg , South Africa from which the modern platinum industry was born. As Americans looked to the big screen for escapism during the Great Depression, they would see Jean Harlow and Marlene Dietrich adorn them selves in Platinum Jewelry. In fact Hollywood was summed up by the title character in Frank Capra's movie ‘Platinum Blonde'.
