The eye-catching orbicular panel is centered with a significant 6.65ct round-faceted Burma peridot, measuring 10.75mm in diameter, graded a highly prized 'vivid-chartreuse' color and 'good' clarity. secured by delicate multiple prongs, the vivacious center stone is surrounded by a glowing orbicular diamond border comprising 0.60cts of European-cut diamonds graded H color and VS1 clarity enhanced by a delicately scalloped perimeter. Exposed atop a meticulously pierced, marquise motif openwork gallery, the orbicular plaque is embraced by gracefully arched and shielded shoulders, mounted with 0.06cts of European-cut diamonds graded H color and VS2 clarity. A delicately reeded and ridged platinum band and an easily sizable shank conclude this absorbing Deco style Burmese peridot and European-cut diamond ring.

Peridot, the modern birthstone for August, is an ancient gemstone currently very popular. Discovered in Egyptian jewelry as far back as the early second millennium BC, peridots then originated from an occurrence on a volcanic island in the Red Sea which was rediscovered around 1900 and has been completely exploited ever since. The ancient Romans cherished this vivid-color gemstone, naming it ‘evening-emerald’. Many medieval churches in Europe were decorated with peridot as can be seen in the Cologne Cathedral amongst a number of others. In the 1990's peridot was the great sensation exhibited at gemstone trade fairs all around the world partly due to the discovery of rich occurrences in Pakistan, exhibiting a finer quality of peridot than anything seen previously. Not so long ago, beautiful transparent peridot deposits were also discovered in the Cashmere region. Chemically formulated as iron-magnesium silicate, peridot is one of the few gemstones which exist only in one color, which is deep green with a slight golden hue, the intensity of the green shade depending on the amount of iron contained. Although not especially hard on the Mohs' scale (6.5 to 7) peridot is quite robust and as such well suited to daily wear without requiring special care.
