This Art Deco opal ring in antique style with sapphires and diamonds is crafted in lavish platinum, weighs 6.7g and measures 23mm wide and 8mm deep. This alluring Art Deco opal ring of delightful color contrasting and geometrical inspiration is designed as an ovular plaque resplendent in opal, sapphires, and diamonds. The captivating plaque is centered with a significant bezel-set 2.44ct oval opal cabochon, measuring 14.63mm long and 8.03mm wide, graded 'vivid chartreuse' color 'with flashes of blue and red'. An ovular cerulean rim mounted with well-cut and well-matched, channel-set French square-cut sapphires cumulatively weighing 0.43cts encircles the captivating center-stone. Measuring 2mm square and graded 'vivid dark-blue' color and 'excellent' clarity, these lively sapphires are surrounded by a glowing and finely scalloped diamond perimeter. The latter comprises 0.65cts of bead-set European-cut diamonds graded H color and VS2 clarity, enriched by artistic mille grained edgework. This assemblage of precious and semi-precious stones surmounts an intricate teardrop-motif pierced openwork gallery. Embraced by delicately arched and shielded shoulders, 0.16cts of matching grade European-cut diamonds are bead-set within a marquise shaped frame. An impeccably ridged and reeded platinum band and an easily sizable shank conclude this Art Deco style opal ring of outstanding aesthetic charm.

Reflected in the manifold opulence of fine opals is all the splendor of nature; fire, lightning, colors of the rainbow and the shine of the far seas. Numerous legends surround this colorful gemstone, which can be traced back to the ancient time of Australian aborigines. One tale recounts that the creator came down to earth on a rainbow to bestow peace upon all human beings and, as his feet touched the ground, all stones beneath them began sparkling in all the colors of the rainbow. That, according to the legend, was the birth of the opals. Australia is in fact the opal's classical country of origin with ninety-five percent of all fine opals originating from its remote and dry deserts. The history of opals began millions of years ago when parts of Australia were covered by a vast inland sea and stone sediment was deposited along the shoreline. With the flooding back of water masses, water-containing silica was flushed back into the cavities of the sedimentary rocks and the resulting silica stone was gradually transformed into opal.
