This estate zircon ring with full-cut diamonds is crafted in lavish platinum, weighs 16.4g and measures 13.5mm wide and 7.5mm deep. Extravagant and impressive in design, this attractive zircon estate ring of massive and color-enriched aesthetic is partly inspired by the late 1940's popular design of 'cocktail' rings associated with 'the cocktail hour’ which had become a fashionable element in society entertainment of the postwar decade. This platinum zircon estate ring is centered with a significant doubly-refractive, prong-set 2.74ct round brilliant-cut zircon measuring 7.35mm long and 5.41mm wide graded 'turquoise-blue' color and 'excellent' clarity. This translucent azure gemstone is exposed atop a dual-layered rectangular plaque pavé-set with 0.68cts of full-cut diamonds graded I-J color and SI2 clarity. Substantial, broad and tapering shoulders merge into a spherical, easily sizable shank stamped with the maker's initials 'LR' in reference to 'Levin Ring Company' of Buffalo, New York, established in 1922. The Company specializes in rings and scarf pins.

Zircon is a naturally occurring gemstone, not to be confused with cubic zirconia, which is a synthetic substance with a completely different chemical composition. Zircon is a mineral belonging to the group of 'nesosilicates', the natural color varying between colorless, yellow-golden, red, brown, blue and green. Colorless specimens of zircon showing gem quality are a popular substitute for diamonds and are known by the name of 'Matura diamond'. The name zircon derives either from the Arabic word 'zarqum' meaning vermilion or from the Persian word 'zargun' translated as 'golden-colored'. These words have been fused into 'jargoon', a term applied to light-colored zircons. Zircon occurs in France, Ceylon, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Nigeria and Tanzania and, together with turquoise, is the traditional birthstone for the month of December.
