This vintage Retro citrine ring is crafted in a bi-tone combination of 18k rose and white gold, weighing 8.7g and measuring 18.5mm wide and 7mm deep. This opulent and elaborately detailed ring epitomizes the massive and impressive jewelry style of the postwar Retro era, particularly the vogue for large semi-precious stones and colored gold, and the multiple sources of inspiration which influenced the postwar jewelry design. This 1940's Retro ring of extravagant aesthetic exposes an outstanding 9.54ct emerald-cut citrine measuring 14mm long and 11mm wide, graded 'vivid marigold' color and 'excellent' clarity. This significant gemstone of delightful sunshine color is secured by quatrefoil, highly ornate claw-prongs, exposed atop an openwork gallery enriched with artfully crafted bi-tone crescent motif profiles centered by rose gold beads. Meticulously designed shoulders of pronounced width incorporate bi-tone sensual scrolls and rose gold beads mounted within finely chased stylized lozenge frames and complemented by finely ridged openwork silhouettes. The latter surmount the artfully reeded rose gold band simulating an integrated quatrefoil-hoop ring, tapering to merge into an easily sizable shank.

Deriving its name from the French word 'citron', meaning lemon, the gemstone citrine has a color palette encompassing ‘yellow’ to ‘gold’ to ‘orange-brown’ shades of transparent quartz. The darker orange nuances of citrine, referred to as 'Madeira citrine' named after the color of the wine, is generally considered as the most valuable color. Most citrine is mined in Rio Grande of Brazil, where there is presently an abundant supply. Citrine is the modern birthstone for November and although considered an alternative to topaz, it is a different mineral. In ancient times, citrine was carried as a protection against snake venom and evil thoughts.
