Victorian Rings

Much of a likeness in size, stone and style, early Victorian Rings were mounted with sapphires, rubies, old mine-cut diamonds, opals and demantoid green garnets. The favored settings were single stone gypsy rings or three stone rings accentuated with tiny rose-cut or old mine-cut diamonds. The buckle motif was born and single or intertwined snake rings, the most favored of all decorative subjects, were popularized by Queen Victoria symbolizing wisdom, eternity and ancestral power. Black and cobalt blue enamel were used with painstaking detail while by the end of the 1800's, five stone emerald, sapphire and ruby rings were in production as were double hearts centrally mounted with pearls bordered by a frame of diamonds and crowned with a bow.
