Vintage Emerald Rings
Mounted in Vintage Emerald Rings, May’s birthstone and Cleopatra’s passion derives its name from ‘esmeraude’ a French word with the Greek root ‘smaragdos’ meaning ‘green gemstone’. Retro Emerald Rings were assembled in the 1940’s while towards the end of the decade, Vintage Platinum Emerald Rings were mounted with a combination of Emeralds and Diamonds in substantially constructed wide-shanked, very metallic angular settings. Often mounted in Rose Gold due to the shortage of nickel and platinum during the war, these Vintage Gold Emerald Rings were often remounted with Emeralds from former decades that were now unavailable due to supply lines being severed. Affected in color by iron content, Emeralds feature between 7.5 and 8 on Moh’s scale of hardness.
